You would need the spindle set up as the C axis to maintain the relationship of the X and C axis, so it is possible but not on a X&Z axis lathe.

That could be why, you are only getting a speed update once every rev so the pitch can only be adjusted once a rev.  With large leads this can be an issue.

You need the de-bounce in config set to the minimum for the spindle.

Are you running with a spindle encoder or a single slot index?

Post a picture of the machine with all axis at the home position.

Is the machine on servos or steppers?

If its on steppers swap 2 wires on the axis motor and turn off reversed option.  You will have to swap the homing too.

It could also be the spindle slowing as it takes the load of the tool and tried to compensate.  A leading brass support bush and faster speed may help, a bit like they do when milling long threads.

Is the macro checking any signals before it continues, some signals may only be active in program mode.

Have you got Feed Per Rev set (G95)
