I think its latched on the multi board, try killing the power to the board then re run mach.

Have you got 5 volt to the pin marked EN

This enables the outputs.

General Mach Discussion / DC Spindle drive question, What to do with it!
« on: November 03, 2006, 02:01:54 PM »
Hi All,

I took the plunge and bought the Boxford Mill,  its a very tidy machine, very little use.

Now I am in the throws of converting it to Mach3,  most of it is straight forward enough but the DC spindle drive is a bit of an enigma.

From the pictures below can anybody tell me if I can use this from Mach.

It looks to have -10V and a 10V connector on the green PCB but I can not find any drawing or info about the setup.

It looks as if it may use a relay to change direction.

Any help much appreciated

Graham.

If you are talking about thousands of very short moves, try reducing the feed rate by 50 per cent.

You may be only cutting at the acceleration speed not the feed rate specified in the program on most of the cuts.

It could be a lack of shielding on your PC, 2.4Ghz wireless can send all sorts mad.

The digital control on my washing machine hates my laptops wireless connection.

General Mach Discussion / Re: modbus for encoder input?

Not really,  Mach only looks at modbus about 20 times a second.

The only other thing I can think of is,  are you running unshielded cables and running power and signal wires together, ty-wrapped or worse still wrapped together with wire Tye's.

What happens if you program it to move, e.g.

mdi mode

G91 G00 A90.

and then

G91 G00 A-90.

General Mach Discussion / Boxford VMC190 Conversion Information Wanted
« on: October 28, 2006, 05:57:43 AM »
Hi All,

I have been offered a Boxford VMC190 mill and was wondering if anybody has converted one to Mach3.

The price is right and the machine runs now but as usual with these there is no software.

The machine is complete with a tool changer and coolant mist system,  my main concern is how I get all the I/O for the tool changer.  It looks to need at least 10 inputs and 8 outputs.

Writing some VB is not a problem, its the electronic hardware side I am not too sure about.

Can I use the original spindle drive unit.

Any drawings and hardware recommendations would be very helpful.

Thanks

Graham.
