Mach3 is the software, but it's most likely sending commands to a motion controller like this:
https://goo.gl/o31Jj2

These motion controllers actually handle the probing operations, and most of the chinese ones do not support probing properly.

I have added a new image to the previous ones showing the controller I have in the machine.

I changed the safe - z coordinates to machine based and have even more problems.
When I use the edge finger it work fine for a little while using the simple or tool change auto zero but then starts to go crazy. I successfully got it to work about 4 times in a row. Then after that it would stay down on the probing, touch once more up along way and then crash into the edge finder. After that this is all it would do. Then turned machine off and on, close machn 3, re zeroed the machine. Nothing would stop it crashing.

At no point when I use used the go to zero toolbar button would the z go anywhere near the work surface..

I tried just using a simple piece of aluminium onto of my work piece with the probe wire attached and never had the crash problem. However when telling Mach 3 to go home, it almost went to where is should have on the x-axis but s always about 1mm too high.

None of this makes sense to me at all.

The issue is most likely with your XHC motion card. I have another user with the same card that was not able to get probing to work either.
As I said, send me an email, and I'll send you some alternate macros to try that may work.

One thing that I would recommend, is if the probing does not work correctly, then close and restart Mach3 before trying again. Once a macro fails to run properly in Mach3, future attempts will often not work until Mach3 is restarted.

I got it. I was on a plane all day yesterday, and back to work this morning. I'll get it to you this evening.

Hello,
I just replaced my old pc with a new one. What is the current version of the screenset? I have 1.14. I saw on the site there is patch for probing, do I need to install that as well?

Is there a newer version available?

1.14 is the latest version.
The updated macro on my site (M909) is only needed if you have you're probe mounted away from the spindle, and are specifying the offset coordinates.

Hi Ger, I am having an issue where I am trying to machine two parts using materials of different thicknesses using G54/G55 WCS. The file has 3 tool changes. The file runs a 1/2" cutter G54 then G55, then switches to a 1/4" cutter in G55 and cuts those parts perfectly but when it switches back to G54 with the 1/4" cutter the height is off and it doesn't cut deep enough. I am assuming that this is because the tool change macro only updates the zero on G55. Is there a work flow/work around for this?

Thanks!

Download these macros and replace the existing ones. These set Z zero in G54-G59 offsets, so you can change offsets without losing your Z zero.

I have installed Mach 3 on a new computer, and am having difficulty transferring the 2010 screenset over. I copied the entire Mach 3 file from the old computer to the new one, but when I open the 2010 screenset it appears to missing quit a few files. Is the screenset transferable, or do I need to purchase a new one?
