Yes.
You're Z zero is being set correctly when the tool touches the plate, so I don't see where the error you're seeing could be coming from, unless the plate is not .358" thick.

The plate is 0.358" as described. Software working correctly.

I've worked meticulously through the machine for the past two days and just now getting to post my findings.

Turned out to be a backlash issue. When I would tell it to go to 1", then 2", then 3" (with Dial indicator in place) it was landing at the correct position (dead on) so I'm certain my steps/per is correct. Upon reversing the direction, it oddly landed at the correct positions again so I'd dismissed backlash.

It took a battery of testing to final realize that somehow the backlash was in fact off and it became a hit and miss in that sometimes it was correct and sometimes not. Did some tightening/adjustments to finally reveal the culprit.

So for now it appears that I've gotten it ironed out.  It now is landing sometimes off by a thou and sometimes by a half thou.

I'll take that for the X2.

Hi Gerry, was hoping you can help me. I'm setting up my xbox controller and want to use a button for simple auto zero. I used macro M881 and worked but than looks to auto zero on fixed plate. I want the xbox controller button to work the same simple auto zero like on my screenset.

Thanks,
Dan

M889 I think. It's listed in the manual.

Gerry,

I'm using your 2010 screenset and while running a job if the there is a tool change (M6)  in the g-code I'm unable to move any axis, especially Z to re-zero the tool. I'm pretty new to machining so is this by default in the 2010 screenset or is there a trick I'm missing?

You shouldn't need to move the tool and zero it. It does all that automatically for you.
Is there a message that says "Press Cycle Start after changing tool"?

Is it moving to the tool change position when it gets to the M6?

Can you tell me a little more about what's happening, and what you're trying to do?

Jerry,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Instead of using the automatic tool change using a "home" position I am trying to use the zero tool function V twice, once to zero the initial tool and then when the M6 occurs. My second attempt to zero the tool is what is causing the problem.

Maybe I'm using the zero tool incorrectly?

What is the difference betwwen the "Fixed Plate X/Y" and the Change Position co-ordinates?

The tool change position is where you want the tool to move so you can change it.
The fixed plate is a plate mounted fpr the automatic auto zero.

When you get to an M6, then the M6 macros are running, so you can't run the other macro. To work like you want to do, you'd need to change the M6 macros to do the regular auto zero during a tool change.
It wuold be easier to just use separate programs for each tool, so you could zero in between.

But it's far simpler to mount a fixed auto zero plate on your machine, and let Mach3 do all the work for you, automatically.
