AS I said, most people with this issue never even see the LED.
It's not that any of your components are bad, you probably just have bad ground loops causing interference.

Remove your probe wires from the breakout board, and replace them with short (2-3") wires. Then run the macro, touching the wires to simulate the tool touching the plate. I'm guessing that it will work fine.

i'll try that in the AM. if it works with the short wire what would you suggest? i have a cut area of 4ft x 8 feet and my fixed plate is all the way at the end of my table. thank you for all your help.

All I can suggest is try re-routing your wires.
I'd maybe try disconnecting everything but the probe wires, and see if it works then. If it does, then start adding components back in until you see a problem.

Ground loops can be very hard to diagnose and fix.

not sure if I fixed the ground problem or if there was even a ground problem. i removed my shielded wires for the probe and plate, replaced them wire just regular old 18 gauge wire and installed a .01uF capacitor from 5v to Pin 13 and tested it. well to my surprize the touch off works great again. Hey Gerry thanks for helping me.

If the shielded wire is not grounded properly, it can make the problem worse.

Glad you got it working.

I just set up the zero probing this evening.  It works exactly as I would expect.  It comes down, touches the plate, backs off a few hundredths, comes back down more slowly, then moves to the clearance plane setting.  I can run the simple zero multiple times and it works every time, except in one case.   I start a cycle, let it run for a bit, then hit the stop button to stop the job. If I try to simple zero again, it does the first part of the process the same, but when it backs off, it is backing off approximately 1/2 an inch instead of a few hundredths.  Then it gives up before it gets back down to the plate again. If I shut down MACH3 and reopen, it works just fine again. I've repeated this multiple times.

I've got a 4.7k pullup and a small ceramic capacitor on the input, so I don't think I am getting any noise.  I could snag an o-scope from work to double check if need be, but this only seems to occur after I run a cycle.

Do I have something configured incorrectly?

Thanks,
Jason

I typed a reply, than re-read  your post and realized I missed the issue with hitting stop.
Try using feedhold, and then AFTER movement stops, then hit stop. It should work correctly then. I'm guessing it's some type of bug in Mach3 that doesn't like the way your stopping.

I can give that a try when I get home, but I think it did the same thing when I either hit the e-stop or a limit switch, I don't remember which.  I'll check that as well.

Are you using the parallel port, or a motion controller?
