The driver test only checks the suitability of your PC for running Mach3 - it does not test the LPT port.

1) If you download and run Parmon http://www.geekhideout.com/parmon.shtml this will enable you to test the function of your LPT port.

2) Using a multimeter / continuity tester check your LPT cable thoroughly - ensure that Pin1 goes to Pin1, Pin2 to Pin2 etc. etc. It takes a while but it is worth it.

correct me if I'm wrong but the manual says it checks the lpt
Yes I'm going to do that and also find another cable.

Yes I'm going to do that and also find another cable.

The Driver Test does exactly what it says, it tests the driver, ie Machs parallel port pulsing engine, it does not test the port itself.

Regarding swapping lpt1 to lpt2, you can not just do that and expect things to work.
I will go through things again to hopefully help you understand.
 It does not matter what Windows calls the port, it can be LPT1, LPT3, LPT100000000000 and Mach doesnt care. Mach is only interested in the address.

If you enter the address in Port 1 field box in Mach then you must set all your axis and any other Inputs and Outputs to Port 1.

If you enter the address in the Port2 box in Mach then you will have to set all up as Port2.

Now please answer some questions.
 Does your computer have 1 physical port connection on the back or does it have more than 1?
If it has 1 is it up at the top beside the other connectors or is it lower down beside the slots?
If it has more than 1 which are you connected to?

Please be patient I'm following every one the best I can
===================================
When I switch from lpt1 in mach config to lpt2 i do change everything in the mach config setup to port 2
and visa versa and rebooted each time and did the same change in the control panel
system. hardware, device manager.
=====================
With that said I had to put a pci slot parallel card in that works, brand new, with the drivers, and checked it
when I got the machine because I did not have a MB with a parallel port.
I check the continuity of the cable this morning all good.
The only other thing I have going to the computer is a USB cable from the machine
================================================
please answer me this.
in the mach config
port 1 is 0.x378
port 2 is 0.x278
I'm assuming these number stay the same if not the I have to change it to what.
Maybe this is where the problem is.
thank you

 No they do not stay the same, you set Port 1 to the address of the port you are using.
Go to device manager in windows and look at the port you are using and get its address, you enter that in Port 1 box in Mach.

WOW way
I though that could be the case because a wack of messages back I asked about com ports, IRQ'S etc and I was told to forget all about that.
OK
===============
Onward we go I will set that up
thank you

Yes you were told correctly to forget all about Com ports and IRQ's.
Com ports are serial ports. Mach uses the parallel port NOT the serial port.
It was explained to you but obviously you did not pick up on that ;)
