Will Mach3 work on a Windows8 machine?
« on: February 27, 2013, 01:13:45 PM »
I recently purchased a CNC plasma table that uses Mach3.  I wanted to "upgrade" the computer.  I bought a HP desktop with an available slot for a PCI Express card.  The computer is running Windows8.  Added the parallel port PCI card, loaded Mach3.  Is there a driver script I need to run?  Will it work at all?

Thanks,

I don't think you can use the parallel port in Windows 8.

I don't think the driver will run. Try installing it and run the Driver test.

All you have to do is pick up a Smoothstepper controller and you are good to go. I would go with the ethernet version.

Im currently running mach3 in windows 8 64 bit, using a uc100 usb adapter, into a gecko 540. No problems with this set up.

Does W8 allow you to have a dual boot ie; can install XP on a partition and run XP?

I tried it, but the computer was made for win 8 64 bit and the network card driver was not available for any other Operating systems.
Biggest issue is drivers for hardware on the mother board
