I recently purchased a CNC plasma table that uses Mach3. I wanted to "upgrade" the computer. I bought a HP desktop with an available slot for a PCI Express card. The computer is running Windows8. Added the parallel port PCI card, loaded Mach3. Is there a driver script I need to run? Will it work at all?
Thanks,
-
I don't think you can use the parallel port in Windows 8.
-
Bummer. If windows8 lets me set ut up, will it work with Mach3?
-
I don't think the driver will run. Try installing it and run the Driver test.
-
Run the Mach3 driver test? I already have it installed....may of just wasted my money.

My IT man at work has been on to Dell today, I want a new laptop for when I get started with Mach3, windows 8 is about all they'll do, apart from a stupid price for a win7 one

All you have to do is pick up a Smoothstepper controller and you are good to go. I would go with the ethernet version.

Im currently running mach3 in windows 8 64 bit, using a uc100 usb adapter, into a gecko 540. No problems with this set up.

Does W8 allow you to have a dual boot ie; can install XP on a partition and run XP?

I tried it, but the computer was made for win 8 64 bit and the network card driver was not available for any other Operating systems.
Biggest issue is drivers for hardware on the mother board

Thanks for the info on dual boot.

Only way I have been able to run a second operating system on my win8 machine is to us an external hard drive and configure the bios to give the option for a different boot at start up. Its a hassle, but possible. Have to dis able signed driver verification process to be able to do it,I think. Pretty sure that was necessary for the uc100 anyway. Windows 8 has been a slight pain but so far all my tech and programs for robotics and NC have been fine with it.
