John S Seig X3 conversion
« on: July 10, 2006, 02:56:41 PM »
Part way through a conversion of the Seig X3 mill.
Many have done this using the original brackets but I wanted to get it as compact as possible. I think they look horrible when they look like Prince Charles :D

Shows both axis with motors fitted, X still needs the rear shaft shortening.

Start of converting the Z mounting, drive will be by HTD belt at 5mm pitch.

Ballscrews are by NSK supported on matched pairs of angular contact bearings driving thru Oldham couplings.

Still a lot to do, some things are unfinished like no X screw fitted at present although all the parts have been made.

Brian,
Crap answer :D
It's running Mach3 latest release.
Bit of extra tuning this morning and it's capable of 5 meters per min or nearly 200 in/min
Rather scary for a little machine. Just wanted to see how fast it would go to workout the safety factor on missed steps when it's set to a workable 1.5m/min or 60in/min

OK the machine is now finished and is going to the Bristol show next weekend.

Many thanks to all who have helped in this with advise etc.
the finished mill. [ oops missed the Z handwheel blanking plate ]

The clean side :D   4th axis plug in the side of the electrical box.

The driver box. Claer panel fitted just for the show.

And the dirty side.
