Hideous Driver Tests
« on: September 07, 2008, 06:34:24 PM »
Hello  :)
Dell GX270. Just put in a new SATA HDD. XP, SP3.  Dwnloaded latest Mach.
The most hideous driver tests I have ever seen...both drivers.

Laptop too...XP, Version 2002, SP3   1400MHz   512 RAM

Tests are full of large spikes and sometimes nearly solid black.

The GX used to run smooth as silk.....barely a bump.
Is this something with the new 008 release ?

OK.. not concerned about the laptop for now. But the GX270 worked perfectly before the IDE HD went out and was replaced with a ATA . Also added SP3. (In office PC ) Now the driver test is nuts.

That looks a nice flat line, shame its a bit on the wide side ;D

Not tried the drive test with 008 but it runs great so I doubt I am going to see anything like you have, will look tomorrow if I remember.

Russ
just run the drivertest with 008 and its a very nice thin line with no spikes at all, so looks like its not 008 that is your problem :(
Is this a new install on the new drive? Have you installed any software such as SATA Raid  Utility? Is it onboard graphics? Disabled any power options?

Yes..new install, new drive, same graphics as before..onboard. Don't know about the Raid ? ? ? Have not disabled anything.
Only changed the HDD.
Note: The installation man. for the ATA drive said "Win xp OS req. SATA host drivers for embedded mobo's to be loaded frof floppy  drive. The SATA drivers are usually on the CD that came with the mobo." When prompted,  I didn't have the drivers but XP loaded anyway and seems to be fine.
I think I just changed the settings in the BIOS.
I was a bit confused at the time......as usual.
Should have let a pro do it.
What should I look for now ?
Thanks,
RC

RC,
I knew I saw sort of the equivilant diver test result. Here is a snap shot from the DELL 745 at work. It has all the anitvirus stuff etc on it etc. So something you loaded with the new drive is causing a constat interuption.

PS: sent you some info see your PM

not yet hood, this is my home PC. Now I seem to have lost a file. I don't see it in the M3 folder.

Its in mine Russ, maybe you need to reinstall Mach again over the top of itself.
