Problems with xyz axis needing constant recalibration

Can any tell me why I would need to keep calibrating the xyz axis.  Works perfectly for a while and then goes haywire.  Machine is a simple xyz milling machine.  Do I need to license the software to stop this?

Once you have your motor tuning  / configuration done should not need to do anything.
