Need Direction for what to try next.
« on: June 21, 2018, 12:45:26 PM »
Hello
I  recently upgraded my PC.  My old PC was just too old and slow.  I don't have all the hardware specs handy at the moment, but I would like to get a few questions out there.

So I am running windows 7 32 bit with sp1 installed.
The processor is an I5 seventh generation.
Parallel Port is a PCI card.

When I installed mach 3 and fired it up on the PC, it immediately crashed and rebooted.  I tried a couple more times and had the same result.
I read about 2 windows 7 updates that could cause this, neither one are installed on my computer. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Will mach 3 work with a pci parallel port?
Will mach 4 work with a pci parallel port using Darwin and windows 7?
Any other Ideas why windows 7 is crashing when firing up mach 3?

I will continue digging but was hoping maybe you guys could get me on the right path.

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,

Try downloading and installing (over the top of your existing version) the latest Mach3 version (R3.043.062);   http://www.machsupport.com/software/downloads-updates/

This patched version may resolve the problem.

Arnold,

I fired up my Win7 testing computer and noticed a new update. I'm installing it now to see if it causes the same issue as the other two. It's KB284826. I'll update this when it's done and verify, but you might try uninstalling that if you have it.

Edit: KB4284826 does cause Mach3 to crash for parallel port users. It can be uninstalled following these directions (https://itstillworks.com/remove-windows-7-updates-8169897.html). Additionally, this is the third month in a row an update has affected parallel port users, so unless you keep your machine offline at all times, it may be worth considering an upgrade to an external motion controller.

Bryannab,

I could not find update  KB284826, but I could find update  KB4284826.
After removing and restarting my computer Mach3 will startup.  I have not got to the parallel port yet, but I will keep ya all posted.

Thanks Guys
Nick

FYI, I just upgraded my PC and it killed Mach3 with Windows 7. Will try to uninstall the Windows KB4284826 tonight and see what happens, will report back.

I'm still dead in the water. Not sure what to try next.

If I look at my update history it says update KB4284826 successfully installed. If I go to installed updates to remove that update, it is not listed. If I start my computer in safe mode I can open Mach3, but opening from the regular desktop I get the Mach3 splash screen then the computer auto reboots itself. Suggestions?

Hi,
do you have a licence for Mach3? I don't mean to suggest that the difficulties you are experiencing are because of the licence situation but
if you don't have one yet you might consider Mach4 instead. Mach4 is not subject to problems with MS updates.

The change from Mach3 to Mach4 is not exactly straight forward or painless and in effect you are required to get an external controller,
maybe $120 to about $250 depending on the features and capacity you want. So Mach4 will cost you some time and effort and  a few dollars
worth of hardware but you will avoid this nonsense of MS updates screwing up your CNC machine.

Hi Seitz333,

Try installing the patched version of Mach3 - the installer is named R3.043 here;  http://www.machsupport.com/software/downloads-updates/

You can install it over the top of your existing installation.

Tweakie.
