Another question:
If you use the keyboard left / right arrow keys to jog the axis does it move at 45° ?

So your work is rotated 90° to the display not 45° ?

here an example:
Display --> shows Tree standing up.
Mill (Looking from my position on the left) --> mills tree lying on it left.
Before my change from parallel to ESS it was.
Display --> shows Tree standing up.
Mill (Looking from my position on the left) --> mills tree standing up.

Hi Steve,
No problem
The actual layout of the X and Y axes usually depends on where the operator stands in relation to the machine (A Mill, for example, may be configured differently to a Router).
You should change your axes (port and pin configuration) so that the direction that the cutter moves in relation to the work piece should always be as shown in this diagram.

And how?
I tried swapping x&y the result was a 180° turn.

Config. / Ports & Pins / Motor Outputs.
Swap your X axis Step Pin# and Dir Pin# with your Y axis Step Pin# and Dir Pin#
If any axis then drives in the wrong direction (see earlier diagram) change the Dir Low Active state for that axis.
