I am new to CNC, what is the best way to zero Z axis on my material, so I don't leave a mark when turning on my router. Do I set the zero on my material, turn my controller off and back off of piece manualy. I do not have homing switches. Thanks

Just jog to the point you want 0 to be. You can use a sheet of paper between the cutter and work so you don't leave a mark. jog down slowly as you slide the papre and as soon as the papaer quits slideing, stop jogging. Go to the z button beside the Z DRO on the program run page and click it to 0 your DRO.

another similar way would be to jog down to near the surface then back off a bit whilst trying to slide a feeler gauge or gage block under. When it slides under nicely you can then enter the thickness of it in the Z DRO and now your cutter is set for the top of the work. The reason you dont jog down onto a feeler or gauge block is you will damage your cutter if you feed a bit too far, jogging up and repeatedly trying to slide the feeler or gauge under wont do damage.
