lathe spindle speed
« on: August 27, 2008, 09:18:44 PM »
Just upgraded to V3.041 cuz I was having some issues with the lockdown.
Using a G95 to calculate feedrate from spindle speed. Have an index to get RPM, but spindle is not controlled by Mach, I turn on and off and set the RPM.
Problem is it sets feedrate to COMMANDED instead of ACTUAL spindle speed. If there is no commanded RPM it gives an error of no RPM in G95 mode and rapids thru cut. If I command a RPM, it sets the FR and won't change it if I vary speed. It worked in the lockdown, usually; sometimes it would rapid thru 2 cuts if I had rapided tool away after setup. That's what I'm trying to get away from.
Using the same XML file as the lockdown. What do I need to change so it will use the actual RPM to set feedrate?

Thanks in advance

Feed should be controlled by the actual RPM shown in the DRO, My spindle on the lathe is controlled by G Code but the way its set up I call S1 to S8 where 1 in High range is 180RPM and S8 is 2000rpm. If mine was reading from the commanded speed then my feeds would be deadly slow but they are not so mine at least reads the actual spindle DRO.
Please post your xml and maybe I can see a problem.

Thanks for taking a look at this, Hood. I realized awhile after I had posted last nite, that I should include the XML, but it was getting late  ;D

Dont see anything bad in your xml from a first look in anycase. I would suggest you try with Spindle Speed Averaging (ports and pins, spindle setup)
How steady is the spindle speed DRO on the main page?

XML shows "Demo Version".
Could be one of the limitations...ie: feed per rev and threading.
Make sure your lic. file is in the Mach3 folder.
Just a guess,
RC

Good catch RC, I opened the xml with the exe to look and obviously it loaded my Licence file, just goes to show that sometimes its best to view it in I.E. as well.

I'll try copying my license when I get home. I installed the new in a separate directory to not overwrite the existing and copied the XML but didn't get the license. Maybe that'll do the trick.
I'll let you know

Thanks

Didn't try his posted xml but my configuiration using single index slot:
in CONFIG>PORTS PINS>SPINDLE SETUP
CHECKED  - USE SPINDLE FEEDBACK IN SYN MODE
                CHECKED  - SPINDLE SPEED AVERAGING
GO TO DIAGNOSTICS SCREEN:
G94 box - should be "green"
INDEX BOX - should be "green"
SPINDLE BOX - should be "green"
Shouldn't the G94 BOX go out and the G95 turn green?. There is  bug in threading such that the G95 won't trigger, but I think the lock down version down version worked. Don't want to confuse, at work, so from my poor memory!
I quess not relavant if not available in un-licensed version.

Well I copied my lic file into the directory and low and behold, it works! Guess it's locked out in the demo version. Seems to have fixed my problem with rapiding thru the first two cuts after i rapid jog away or closer.   ;D

Thanks again guys,
