my first retrofit with mach3, please help
« on: May 11, 2006, 05:36:59 PM »
New to the forum and retrofitting.
I have Dyna 2800 with control I can’t handle; downloaded demo version of Mach 3 and it looks much friendlier than Dyna original.

Watched few times videos and read as much as I could, but don’t know what is my next step.

I have a wiring diagram for the machine, and for example on X driver board there are contacts DIR and STEP. Do I just connect them to corresponding pins on printer port of the PC or I need to install something in between?

I did that in the past but the best way to go is to put gecko drives in the mill...

Thank you,
Do gecko drives completely substitute Dyna built in driver boards or they are inserted in between? Which gecko model can you recommend and where can I buy those in the UK?

Another qestion is about MACH3. When the milling machine homed, steppers are cut off by limit switches, what cuts steppers off when they reach opposite to limit swithches direction?

use the limit switches to home the mill and the softlimits will do the rest :)
