This is how I did mine, its not perfect as when in the low gear range its still reading the full spindle speed, however its near enough to 1:10 so I can still tell approx what the spindle speed is.

Hood:

Thanks for the photo.  How are you fastening on to spindle or what ever?  That must be the top of the belt housing?

Thanks fore your help

All I did was make up a piece of of delrin to fit into the top of the spindle (actually its not the spindle but a shaft for supporting the pulleys I think) This piece had a hex milled in it to locate a nut then a slightly smaller hex below that, I then split it as you can see in the pic below. When the bolt is tightened it draws up into the Delrin and expands inside theĀ  hollow shaft.

No problem, as I said the only drawback is the low gear range still gets read as full speed range but its near enough 10:1 to just mentally knock the last digit off the end to get the speed.

HOOD did you sneak into my shop and look at my setup?(;-)

THe Bridgy reduction is 9:1 you CAN set up mach to display the correct rpm when in low range based on the spindle setup you and I have. ART added in the fix a while back, It works very well

I dont have my spindle controlled by Mach so dont think that will be an option for me. The Bridgeport will be going shortly anyway so I dont think I will ever have the spindle controlled by Mach.
I am in the middle of a retrofit of a Beaver mill, quite a bit more rigid than the Bridgeport and the X travel is 32inch and Y 16 inch compared to the Bridgeports 18 and 12. It will be much more suited to the typed of work I do. Would like to keep  the Bridgeport but just dont have the room :(
