Hey Ron,
I personally will only use the Nvidia Quadro's and they are made for CAD/CAM work.http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_11761.html.
I have bought many video cards with large ram but always the Quadro's run much better. I have an Nvidia Quadro FX1100 at 128mb of ram that will out perform an ATI at 512mb ram. The Quadro's are not cheap thou, but they can save hours of rendering time. If you’re interested check eBay they will be a third of the price. If it's out of your price range and your computer is equipped with it go for a PCI-E X16 card...otherwise the cheapest would to find a Gforce with 256mb memory to handle your CAD/CAM packages.

Great deal and an amazing card...I think those should be going for around $599.99 is the cheapest I could find retail? Nice :)
Don't forget to download from Nvidia the updated "ForceWare"... It will have preset setting for most programs and drivers to meet top performance, for example Catia,Mastercam...3d max,Maya...Photoshop and such...

So am I. I have a Pentium 4 with 1.5 gig ram but it runs slow. Took it to a computer store & he couldn't figure out why it runs so slow. Thought i would get a new processor & mother board to fit my case. Any suggestions on which one to buy? I dond like AMD for some reason.

rkjohn

if mach3 will run on a full 64 bit system,i will wan't to build the new system.but if i have to stay with 32 bit i won't.i have been reading the forum for about a year now
and i don't remember seeing anything about full 64 bit compatability.havn't looked at vista and quantom .
my amd 1.4 with the amd 760 chipset is strong. so if i build again it will be another matched chipset.

Here are 2 photos of the same gcode. Desktop is from my desktop computer, Laptop is from my laptop.
Would you say my desktop needs a better video card or is something else wrong.
Sometimes the desktop will get it right but most of the time it wont.
My desktop card is a Radeon X1300 W/ 512 MB.

Im thinking I need a new computer & card.

Thanks for the help

Ron
