That's why there are both Mach3 and Mach4 sections.
MACH4 users may be asking questions in GENERAL MACH DISCUSSIONS or "Introduce yourself" forum too.
Even a simple question about "my gcode file cannot run"  in GENERAL MACH DISCUSSIONS may simply be because MACH4 and MACH3 has different sets of Gcode and Mcode.

I've used both Mach3 and Mach4 and they use the same Gcode and Mcodes. Some of my oldest files from when I was using
Mach3 and parallel ports run perfectly under Mach4 and ESS five years later.

Many newcomers fail to provide the information that is required to guess at or otherwise answer their problem,
things like whether they are using a parallel port vs an external controller. That's OK we can ask them.

There have been circumstances where posts have ended up in the wrong board. Tweakie is pretty proactive at shifting
them to the correct location. I'm not aware that its become  such a problem that actions you are talking about
are strictly necessary.

"they use the same Gcode and Mcodes"
Many of them are common.
But
MACH4 and MACH3 do have some gcodes and mcodes that are different.

What ones? There are a couple (m161 and m162) that get used for laser ops but as far as I know all the rest are the same.

I vaguely remember some time ago there was actually a discussion, or at least mention, that maybe there should be two totally separate forums. One for Mac3 and its associated goodies, and one for Mach4. There were pros and cons but one point was to start nice and fresh with Mach4 and not have it cluttered up with  the gads of antiquated subs and boards that this one has. Some still relevant and useful, and some not so much.
The Mach3 forum would support its followers and be preserved for posterity while the new Mach4 venue would be a fresh and inviting experience for fan base and the aspiring newcomers.
The worst of it would be our good friend Craig would then (hopefully  ;) be compelled to monitor 2 forums to provide continued support.  ;D

There are some more:-
You cannot repeat the cycle G code on every line like you could in Mach3.

Mach3 would allow:
G83 X.. Y.. Z.. R.. Q..
G83 X.. Y.. Z.. R.. Q..
G83 X.. Y.. Z.. R.. Q..
G80
...
Mach 4 requires:
G83 X.. Y.. Z.. R.. Q..
X.. Y
X.. Y
G80

Threading on the lathe (G76) is Fanuc compatible and Mach3 threading code will just not run in Mach4.

M10 and M11 for THC not supported in Mach4

There are others which I haven't listed yet
(i have both MACH 4 and Mach3 reference guides).

Hi,

That is correct, in fact Mach4 adheres closer to ANSI Gcode and requires Gcode which complies. The G83
example is one that I have come across when making circuit boards, I have a macro that recasts
the Gcode on the fly.

m10 and m11 are deprecated in favour of m162 and m163.

I've never used either. I have used mill toolpaths extensively and the only difference I have found is
the repeated g83 anomaly, and Mach3 is non-compliant whereas Mach4 is, either way it doesn't stop me.

Cannot comment on g76, never used it. I mill threads rather than turn them.

Hi,
g76 is covered in the LatheGcodeProgramming.pdf quite extensively, pages 41 through 43

Mach4 does support g76 lathe threading after all.

Hi,
Mach4 Lathe supports g32 threading as well, LatheGcodeProgramming.pdf pages 31 and 32
and g34 variable pitch (lead) threading on page 33.

Rather more threading options than I had supposed!

M4 Gcodes closer to Fanuc is a good thing.
People using MACH4 as a hobby may find employment in big organizations one day.
MACH4 Industrial version even better since you can create/customize Gcode to match a big Branded machine.

Point is when a user ask for help, it is quicker to give them the correct answer if we know which Program they are using without having to ask.

I am a member of the ORGANFORUM -  every member MUST list their hardware and software & version# in their signature. Same with some Astronomy Forums.

Asking just MACH4 or MACH3 is NOT so drastic when compared with some other forums.
it is just my opinion.
