I am starting work on retrofits of a Novamill and a Novaturn with tool changers. Going to use Gecko G540 and Smooth Steppers on these two. Will post photos once these jobs are finished.

I am very poor at documenting things during work. I'll try my best to document this for all. Here are the photos of machine with existing controls.

Novaturn is complete. Used Smooth Stepper USB and Gecko 540's on it. The steppers are giving 500 mm/min rapids. Initial turning facing trials have been done. Will try threading in a couple of days. I'll post videos of it after trials are complete. For analog FRO and SRO knobs I've used Arduino with modbus. Arduino is also controlling the input from the function buttons installed beside the LCD display. All other I/O's are handled by Smooth Stepper. All the original functions of machine are operational. I'll post more photos and videos of the machine in operation.

you should be able to get 1500 - 2000mm/min rapids on the novaturn and novamill. I would have expected more from that setup.

Thanks Hood for the compliments. The Novamill is complete too. Here is the pic of first engraving test job on it. 800 mm/min rapids on all axes. Original motors with Gecko G250X's and smoothstepper USB. 6 position tool turret, pneumatic vice and pneumatic guard door. All functioning pretty good. Will post pics and vids later.
