Random "External EStop Requested" interrupting large jobs
« on: July 20, 2018, 02:26:27 AM »
The last couple of days I've being running some large jobs (all being generated via VCarve Pro2D) and randomly during the job Mach3 will stop with the error "External EStop Requested".  Looking at the diagnostics tab none of the inputs are triggered (limit switches are fine and emergency stop isn't triggered).

It's not a huge deal because I just start the file back up where it left off but if I'm running around doing other things it's little frustring coming back expecting the job to be done and having the job stalled.

Anyway, if anyone has any guesses where it might be coming from that I could dig into I appreciate it.

Running:
Mach3 (it's not the latest version - its the version recommended for use by Warp9 for the Smoothstepper)
Ethernet Smoothstepper
Win 8

Thanks!

Hi,
I am confused.....you say:
Quote
Looking at the diagnostics tab none of the inputs are triggered (limit switches are fine and emergency stop isn't triggered).
and yet the reported fault is:
Quote
"External EStop Requested"
Which statement is correct?

If it is an external Estop then its probably electrical noise on a limit signal line or motor fault line. Tracking down such faults can be a confusing
and frustrating process.

Yeah - that's why I'm confused as well.....

The first time it happened I thought I might have accidentally bumped the EStop switch just not paying close enough attention.  But then it happened again and again and again....you get the idea.
The last 3 or 4 times it happened I immediately checked the Diagnostics tab and nothing.

Hi,
sounds like electrical noise, enough to trigger an Estop but doesn't persist.

I think you should try a bit of input filtering on you limit and Estop lines.

What sort of spindle are you using?. The spindle is by far and away the biggest electrical noise generator in most machines, if you can tame
it most of your noise problems disappear.

I chased this for a couple of months. I had purchased a
commercial limit switch years ago. It worked very well with
my setup. I also had some cheaper switches and was sure it
was the cheaper one's, just trying to isolate it.
Well while the machine was setting still it finally happened,
it was the commercial one. Still could not believe it. Unhooked
it and problem went away.
I know it sounds simple to find these, but sometimes you just
get side tracked.
Good luck!
