Losing offsets
« on: March 14, 2018, 04:37:07 PM »
Hi

Just got to work to find Windows 10 had updated & restarted the computer.

And now my offsets (i only use G56, but it's important) are gone.

How do i permanently store offsets in Mach3?

I've clicked Offsets / Save Work Offsets / Save - does this do anything?
Apparently not... i just tried saving a new offset, restarting the computer (without fixture save - Windows update won't click it when updating) & nope... my G56 is now somewhere else.

My general config looks as in the attached image.

Is there a setting i'm missing that stores offsets permanently?

Cheers

Try; Operator / Restore Settings and select a backup from a date before the problem occurred. That should retrieve your lost offsets.

Tweakie.

(The PC you use with Mach3 and your CNC should be dedicated to the task and not connected to the net. , etc.)
PEACE

Hi,
it has been recommended that Winows10 updates be turned off, unfortunately you cant turn them off in Windows10 Home but you can in the Pro edition.
Way to go MS!! Only thing you can do is make sure it never sees the internet because it will try to update and drop Mach without a second thought, after
all MS knows best.

Thanks for your responses. I'll disconnect from the network ...it shares a network with my other computer where i design the files.
I'll disconnect from internet & hope for the best.

But this really only treats the symptom but not the cure - what if the power goes off (i have a laptop but still)?
What if (unsurprisingly) Windows crashes?

I'm still getting to grips with Mach3 & CNC in general but isn't having accurate, reliable, constant offsets really important?

Last night i had to align my new reset G56 to the spoilboard by "eye" like a caveman & i really didn't like it.

Hi,
I now use Mach4 but as I recall Mach3 saved offsets also, it used to ask at each shutdown.

Offsets are only as accurate as your home reference, if that varies by even the slightest amount having
offsets saved from a previous session are a waste of time.

Check "Persistent Offsets" and "Persistent DRO's" in General Config.
