only one of the Y motors is malfunctioning
« on: January 15, 2017, 09:36:29 AM »
Hello Guys,

I recently discovered this great forum and this is my first post here.

I have a CNC wood router with two synchronized Y axis motors. Each motor has its own driver but the signal cable for both is in parallel with each others.
The problem is vibrating and bad behavior of only one motor while the other is ok. I connected the drive of the malfunctioning motor to the the good motor and runs OK which means that the driver has no problem.

Could any one advise what to do please?

No direct help I'm afraid but generally when paralleling motors its best to have two drives and two channels on the breakout board, usually the A channel is slaved with X or Y as needed. This keeps full pulse signal strength for each channel and no chance of interaction.

Do you have a spare channel on your BOB ?

When two motors are required to drive a gantry then it is usual for each motor to be driven by it's own axis (Y and A) and the two are then slaved together. Section 4.5.5.5 of the Mach3 manual refers http://www.machsupport.com/help-learning/product-manuals/

Thanks guys for the replies.

The problem is still existing even after I put that malfunctioning motor on a separate Chanel (A).

I'll re-phrase the problem:   recently one gantry motor is vibrating with noise and with unexpected behavior and direction. each one of the gantry motors has its own driver but signals to the two drivers are parallel and come from the (Y) Chanel. I put this motor on the X axis drive and it worked smoothly. I put this motor on the other gantry's drive and it worked badly. I changed the computer and the problem is still the same.

Any help idea?

Perhaps carefully check the connections and cable to that dodgy motor - could be a high resistance or even open circuit.

Thanks Tweaki
Everything looks fine, also don't forget that this dodgy motor is working nice with other driver when I swapped plugs. Also its driver drives other motor correctly.  !!!!!!!

If you are still connecting it that way (not recommended) then maybe the Y Channel does not have sufficient voltage/current to drive two motor controllers correctly ?

mmmmmm

The motor can't work properly with a separate channel too.
