I have pulled the trigger on a SuperPid 2
« on: October 09, 2016, 01:15:15 PM »
As the title says after I saw there was a 15% October sale for SuperPids so I went for it.

I saw a Utube of a guy called HelicopterJohn who seems to have desoldered the "screen" and mounted it on his cabinet front with attached wires, I want to try that.

I would like also for my Xbox Controller to be able to alter the speed, I wonder if that is possible?

If anyone has any other tips and tricks I wanna get the full tinker factor from it.

regards Ford

The lcd screen is a plug-in so no need for soldering.

I've been using a SuperPID for a couple of years now.  I separated the display from the board.  I'm a big fan of the SuperPID.

Here is a link to my build thread on cnczone.

I've got the cable part no in the build thread.

Thanks RickinBC I searched my supplier for the flat cable HCMS-16-T-24.00-02 but got nowhere (I live in Norway)

Is the flat cable a 16 core with a male pin on one end and a female on the other,
not unlike the ones that go to old fashioned hard discs on computers?

thanks for the replys guys :)

It appears you need a 16 pin IDC cable, male / female from the part numbers listed of your chosen lenght

It's the male / female part that can limit supply as most are female / female... also known as a translator cable... as one end has pins and the other a socket

There are some on fleebay

After much research, trial and tribulation, I finally have the correct cable.

Here's the Samtech part number: HCMS-16-T-24.00-02

That's for the 24" cable. If you wanted a 12" cable, the part number would be: HCMS-16-T-12.00-02

The cable fits nice and snug. No tape, rubber bands, zip ties needed.

The recommendation to keep the cable short is a good one. The scroll text at start up is not as clean with the cable on, but all other function is perfect.

They will probably work... although not sure about the pin spacing.... suggest cable tieing them together to provide a bit of rigidity as a bundle... if you have a hot glue gun. You could apply a bit of glue to the back of the connectors once installed and it would then make them into a more singular connector. Less chance of working their way out with vibration over time or anything like that.
