Slaving an axis

I have a 3 axis controller I'm using the X,&Y axis Z is open I need to slave my x axis can I use the Z axis as the slave? I went into mach3 to the slave drop down but how do you set up the correct slave?

Go into ports and pins and configure the "z axis" on your controller to be the A, B, or C axis.
