Another strange axis movement: G37 and 4th axis
« on: December 31, 2015, 12:24:14 PM »
Hello,

currently I'm fighting some strange axis movements after I've added an 4th axis (A) to my mill. Now, an G37 (probe) move in the X,Y or Z direction moves mostly the A-Axis with the feedrate given and the axis given in the G37 command only in very small steps. That is in G90 and G91 mode. Only if I disable the 4th axis in "Ports and Pins" the problem vanishes. Any Ideas? Known problem? Bug? RTFM? No slaved axis there, of course.

Type of controller ???  Never heard of a Mach3 G37.

Mach3 version R3.043.066, and it was a typo - straight probe is G31.

AH ok that is a ESS. You need to talk to Warp9 about that as that is a plugin issue not a mach3 problem.

I don't think so. I've installed the newest ESS Plugin and it's the same. And when this happens, the axis movement is accordingly to the DRO's. With an G31 X0, both the X- and the A-Axis DROs move. If I disable the Motor Output for A-Axis, the Problem vanishes.

I notice that you are using Mach3 version R3.043.066 which has been reported to have some problems under certain circumstances. It is for this reason that Warp9 recommend using version R3.043.062 with their ESS. It's a long shot but it may just solve your problem ??

Earlier versions of Mach3 can be downloaded from the FTP Downloads here; http://www.machsupport.com/software/downloads-updates/

I tried that, but it's complicated. Because I don't want to change an otherwise perfectly running system, I tried to install the earlier version to C:\Mach3-062\ and leave the 066 at C:\Mach3\  . But then, I couldn't get the ESS to connect at all. I got the window where to put the IP address, and then next an errormessage. But fortunately, the 066 version was still launchable. Perhaps, it will work if I uninstall 066 first, but I really don't want to do that. And I don't know which files to change manually to switch back from 066 to 062.

One option would be to move the 066 to another folder and install 062 at the original path. Perhaps I try that.

With an outside controller like ess IT controls the motions for the G31 NOT mach3. IF you are getting uncontroled multi axis moves with a G31 move then it IS a ESS plugin problem OR a firmware problem in teh ESS.  I know for a fact that teh LPT version does not do that.

I'm going then to install v062 and then file a complaint at warp9, it seems ...
