Stepper screaming
« on: November 23, 2014, 05:06:09 PM »
I have a router that I'm trying to setup in Mach3. I have done the motor tuning and I can successfully jog all axes at 100%. I have a program the drills the holes in a vacuum bed that rapids from zero, profiles a hole, retracts to safe z, moves by G00 25mm in y and then profiles the next hole. The rapid from zero works file, the profiling of the hole and retract works fine, but the rapid in y only mooves a few mm and the stepper screams. This problem repeats for each hole. Jogging the machine at 100% in y after the problem has occurred also works fine. What parameter haven't I set correctly.

Reduce your Velocity and acceleration in motor tuning, it sounds like you are just on the limit of the motors capabilities.

If that doesnt help then the other thing to try is increase the pulse width a bit.

I've spent today playing with my router and discovered that the problem is due to my Backlash configuration. When I turn Backlash compensation OFF everything moves sweetly.

What I did to fix the problem was to increase the value for Shuttle Accel. (in General Config...) from 0.01 to 0.05. Now I have Backlash compensation working and high rapid speeds. :) :)

Ah, yes Backlash can be problematic if not set correctly, good you found it :)
