Power Supply box
« on: July 16, 2014, 01:02:27 AM »
Hi,
I'm building the cnc controller drives and adding an Antek power supply PS-5N38R5R12 for my Knee Mill cnc, need some suggestions what to add after the Antek PSU to prevent toasting the DC servo drives?

Saw this in cnczone:

what is that device below the Antek PSU? is it a relay? or breaker?

I would use Circuit Breakers between the PSU, the drives each drive with their own CB rated for them. I would use Class "D" breakers (slower trip curve) so inrush won't trip them on power up. I would also run a E-Stop Safety circuit (hard wired) before the PSU, to cut power to the drives (note the safety circuit would cut power to only the "Power" side of your drives, not the 12V Controller side of your drives.  Automation Direct has some really good prices on this kind of stuff, sometimes Mouser and Allied also...

 Thanks Scott.
Antek output 36VDC, 12VDC and 5VDC, so Class D breaker goes between the PSU and the DC servo drive motor V+, correct?

thanks
