UC100 a little dismayed
« on: July 13, 2014, 11:19:34 AM »
After a great deal of work i finally got my thin client working with Mach3 and the UC100 motion controller from CNCDRIVE.COM.
Works great up to a point.
The feedrate and feed override lags so much that i find mach3 unusable.(approx 2 sec delay) :'(
It has to empty it's 1.5sec buffer ????????
I really think if i had this information in front of me before i started,i would not have gone up this route.
I am very suprised there has been no mention of this on the forum in the past.
By the time the feedrate drops it is too late at 3000mm/min and crunch.
Very dismayed. >:D

I think this may be the nature of motion controllers. I have the UC-100 and the UC-300 as well as a Smooth stepper and they all seem to react the same way.

From what i can gather it is not the motion controller it is the way Mach3 interacts with the motion controller,(so i am told by the developer of the uc100) :(
It really is a poor setup >:D

That could be. Like I said I have the same issue with both. I stopped feed rate changes in mach long ago as even with the parallel port it was kind of iffy. The one that gets me with the add on controllers is the pause delay.

Hopefully Mach 4 will iron out some of this.

Yes i fully agree,The feedhold Delay is also a very poor implementation.
Are there any other Motion controllers too choose from that do not display this problem or that maybe have an adjustable data buffer to lessen the delay?
I am not sure i want to spend another $200 on mach4 after just buying this and finding it is not suitable or fit for purpose >:D

I only have experience with the CNC drive units and the smoothstepper. You may want to do a new post with the delay/controller issue. There may be one out there that fits the bill.

Derek

You should really mention it to Balezs or support at CNCDrive.
Because i think if they made the data buffer adjustable in size, you could lower the size of the buffer to suit the speed of your computer, without starving the motion controller of data.
Some of the other manufacturers have already gone up this route.
And i know cncdrive have done this in there own software UCCNC,they just have not done it in the mach3 plugin.
So the Feedhold and override would become much more responsive.
The more people that complain, the more they may take this complaint seriously.

Sounds like good advice.
