Big hole where there shouldn't be any
« on: July 07, 2013, 06:39:21 PM »
I've run into a major hole in my design.  I mean a big hole where there shouldn't be any.

Loading the G-code on my laptop system (Smooth Stepper USB, G540 controller) I can see a giant spiral at 0,0 where there shouldn't be any.

Loading the same file on my desktop system show everything correctly.  I know from experience that if I run the code on my laptop it will crash the bit into the work piece with a wide gash.

The G-code file was created using MeshCam 5 (build 37)

Any ideas as to what would cause this?

TIA,
Ken

Your IJ mode is set wrong. Ideally your code should have a G90.1 or G91.1 at the start to tell Mach which IJ mode the code is written in, ie Absolute or Incremental.
You can set the default on General config page but as said its best done from the code itself.

Pardon me for asking, but what is IJ mode?

The manual likely explains it (never read it though so maybe not ;D ) but basically it is to tell Mach how arcs are defined, ie either by absolute units or incremental units.

The IJ setting was my problem.

Thanks,

He's way ahead of me and I've read a whole lot of the manual - don't remember most of it as at first it was way over my head.  It takes time to sink in.
