trim pot adjust

I just replaced my toshiba board with a g540. Holy Cow what a difference. I need to adjust the trim  and I need to move the motor 1 IPM. how do I do that? It was a late night and I'm still a little foggy right now. Drawing a blank.

Hey Jim, I have not read the manual but are you sure it is one IPM or is it so one RPM?  I know the G201 manual wants the motor turning a very slow rpm to adjust the trim.  I wouldn't think it would be IPM because most machines are different and the same motor could be used on many different machines with different axis resolutions.  If it is RPM, you will need to do some math to get to the feed rate to program in to achieve that.  You will use your steps per value in motor tuning for each axis.  Just look them up and write them down.  Now do the math to figure out how many IPM you need to command to get the motors to turn the RPM Gecko recommends to tune at.

Geez. I thought I was in a fog. its a full blown grey out. LOL. yes It is supposed to be 2 rpm per second. My steps per are 4000. What would the formula be to get to 2 rpm

Are you running 1.8 degree (200 steps per rev.) steppers?

4000? are you set in metric or imperial units?

1.8 deg 200 steps per 5 start acme 10 threads per in imperial units (Inches). I used the calculator on the site to figure the steps per when I had the other board using 1/8 micro stepping and it was 3200 steps per. changed over to this board and now I am at 4000.

Ok yes thats correct, just sounded a lot for metric or not a lot for imperial but as you have course screws (2 turns per inch) your steps per are correct.
So 2 rpm of the motors would equate to 1IPM

Okay, 4000 steps per/10 microsteps=400  400/200 steps per rev = 2 full revs of the motor should move you 1 inch.  A feed rate of .5 IPM should make the motor turn 1 rev per minute.

How do i set that. Is it as easy as going to the feed rate and chnging it to 1. Brett I had re read the manual and it is supposed to be 2 revs per second. Sorry for the mis-information.

Oh, 2 revs per second?  Not 2 revs per minute? 

You could just enter G1 F0.5  to feed at .5 inches per minute or change the F0.5 to F1.0 for 1 inch per minute.  Make sure your in inches though and not MM.  This is not the same as your native units.  Just start your mdi move by entering a G20 first to be sure it is in inches.
