again all looks fine with the exception of possibly the Index Debounce on General Config page is set to 10, try 0 and see if it helps.
Also just in case you dont know but you need to tell Mach the spindle has started, either with M3/M4 or by pressing the spindle start button. I think you must be doing that as I think you said you were getting some sort of reading earlier on.

Yeah I was trying everything just to see if it would make a difference. Changing debounce and anything else I could think of.. Once I was frustrated and just sitting there thinking with the spindle running not changing anything the index light came on and it just started working with a erratic reading but working then a few minutes later it stopped. Thought maybe a bad connection with the break out board.  ???  Checked connections but couldn't find any problem.

Would seem to be a hardware issue, have you asked Arturo for any help?

Make sure the photo transitor is working properly. You should be able to put a piece of paper between the prongs and see the index go on or off in MACH, or get a high and low voltage reading. If that part works then you can play with the slot width of the index disc. There is info in the Mach manual on how wide to make the slot.
FWIW,
RICH

I looked through the Mach3 Manual for how wide to make the slot for indexing. Didn't see it anywhere.

I search for "slot", "width" & "index" but no joy on any of the details of which you stated.

Can you point me to the correct page and section please?

Thanks in advance,
