text engraving help
« on: March 22, 2012, 04:42:09 PM »
Hi all,

I admit I don't know what I'm doing but very willing to learn.  I'm simply trying to engrave some text in some aluminum.  Here is what I'm doing:

using mach3 wizard - Text Engraving v4
I have written the g code for what I want engraved and clicked run and it runs fine but I have no z axis control/movement.
On the text engraving page it will not allow me to enter any values for the rapid height, zero, or depth of the z axis.  (actually it won't let me enter ANY values for anything.  Just asks for feed rate, height and spacing after I click write) When I change the value to what I want it goes back to zero when I click something else.

Like I said, I've moved my cutter to the starting point (bottom left of workpiece).  Paper off of work piece and zeroed everything out.  Click run and it traces good, just no z axis movement because I can't enter any values.

Any help on what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks for your time, James

Don't use the wizard much at all.... but  you need to input a tool ( try 0 if you don't have any in the tool table, pick a font, and clicking write for it to post code. Make sure you fill in all the inputs.......should work.  ;)

James,
  Anytime you enter a value to a DRO, you MUST hit the ENTER key before clicking anything else.
Might be your prob.

Awwww shucks Russ, you flatter me.  ;D

I don't have plans to go to the ATX South show but it does look interesting.  I would love to go if I can find the time.  You going?
