acceleration question
« on: February 27, 2012, 08:40:50 PM »
Hi there -

I have my machine set and on most part everything runs pretty well but I sometimes lose steps on X-axis.
Q. If I slow down my acceleration, do I need to change any other settings or will everything else be ok?

Thanks
Keith

You wont need to change anything else, worth noting however, reducing the Velocity may also work and having a slower rapid with a faster acceleration is better than the other way around.

Hood -
How do I know when to adjust acceleration vice velocity?
Thanks -

With steppers everything is trial and error really. What I can do is give you an example. My Bridgeport had steppers and I had rapid set to 2500mm/min and the most I could get on accel without losing steps was 40mm/s/s. I reduced the Velocity to I think 2200mm/min and I was then able to increase the velocity to 120mm/s/s without losing steps. That made a huge difference to the machine as even though rapids were slower machining speed increased as it got to commanded speed much faster and especially where lots of small moves were being commanded.
