Spindle speed hunts

Set speed to 4000 rpm but machine goes up to 5000 rpm and then backs off to 4000 rpm and is ok then till you change speed again and the same happens

If you are using VFD driven form a 0-10 Volt signal (or similar) then it might be worth checking this voltage whilst you change speed to see how quickly the voltage stabilizes.
