calculation for using Pulley
« on: October 15, 2009, 06:56:55 PM »
Hello,

I would like to use pulley in order to double the speed of my machine.

The small one is a 14 teethed pulley which attached to the transmission screw of 5mm pitch.
The bigger or wider pulley is fixed on the motor (pas à pas) 200 step per revolution.
And also I have Gecko drive that is rated to 10 micro step.

How could I calculate the steps units for motor tuning please?

Thanks
Robhi

Sorry...
the wider pulley has 44 teeth and the pitch is 5 for both of them..

motor 200 steps  x 10 micro steps = 2000 steps per motor rev
Ballscrew = 5mm per rev
Ballscrew does 44/14 = 3.142 revs per motor rev so that is 3.142 x 5 = 15.714mm per motor rev
2000 steps per motor rev/ 15.714 = 127.2727272727272...................... steps per mm.

hello,

now I have 400 step..

200 step motor * 10 microstep gecko 2000
2000/5 screw pitch = 400 .

so if I use 127.2727272727272 in stead of 400 , the machine goes faster?

I would like to fix the larger or wider pulley  on the stepper motor..
thanks

Yes it will move faster because 1 turn of the motor will move the ballscrew 44/14 = 3.142857142857142857.....turns.
With your 1:1 gearing one turn of the motor moves 5mm so steps per mm is 2000/5 = 400. But with the gearing of 3.142857........ the axis will move 3.142857.......mm for 400 steps so 400/3.142857....... is 127.272727......steps per mm.

hello again,

how do I calculate for the rotary axis?

motor is 200 steps, Gecko 201 , small pulley (12 teeth ) is  directly attached to the chuck.  wide one is on the stepper motor 60 teeth..

60/12 = 5
5*200= 500
500*10= 5000
5000/360=13.88888.....etc

Am I right?

One rev of motor does 5 revs of chuck as you have said
one rev of motor is 200 steps x 10 microsteps of drive = 2000 steps per rev
steps per rev of chuck is 2000 x 5 = 10,000
10,000 steps per 360 degrees  so 1 degree is 10,000/360 = 27.777777777777777777777777777777 steps
