Can you stop release on outside jogging
« on: August 31, 2006, 01:35:18 PM »
Hi

When using my touch screen I've noticed if you press a jog button then move your finger off the button before releasing, the axis caries on jogging till you press and release the button again. While I can see the advantage of this for manual machining, I've also experienced the downside of it having my tool rapid straight into my job and not being quick enough to stop it, luckily it was only a wooden test piece.

Is there a way of disabling this function or changing it so it only does it on a double click or something?

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,
Is a touch screen a special kind of screen, or can any screen work with the right programs?
Thanks, :D

You can convert a normal screen to a touch screen by buying an overlay panel that goes on to of the screen or you can buy one that was designed from the start as a touch screen. There are two main kinds of touch panels, resistive and capacitive, everyone recommends resistive as I think the capacitive are supposed to give problems with coolant and oil covered fingers. However I bought a capacitive and have been using it for maybe 6 months now and never had a problem other than having to clean the screen every now and then to wipe away the layer of oily, grimy fingerprints ;)

Heres a link to the addon panels http://www.magictouch.com/addon.html

Neat!
It looks like it is easier than a mouse,  :)
Thanks for the link Hood.

Thankyou very much Brian

Glenn they really are easier than trying to use a mouse and there a lot quicker too, I picked my touch screen up for £36 on Ebay, it's old and only has a 12" screen with poor colours but I like it. Like Hoods mines a capacitive type, not had any trouble with it but have noticed it won't work if you don't use your fingers i.e. nothing happens if you press on the screen with a piece of plastic so I guess it won't work if you wear gloves.

Cheers
