Random -Z (going down WAY too far!!!)
« on: July 02, 2009, 07:26:59 PM »
So, twice just now my router decided to ignore the g-code setting for the -Z.

G-code reads -Z0.1300

I had to kill the run because it was just ploughing straight down regardless and was about to destroy my machine ;(

I have NO clue what this is....

Help please!!

Thanks.

Rich

Is the DRO showing the Z moving down further than the code?

Any way you can test again safely, maybe by removing the cutter and setting the Z zero higher off your table. If the DRO is showing correctly then it seems either like noise or maybe you missed steps on a rapid up and its getting sent down further due to that.

I hear ya. Although I am using FREE LazyCam so I have to have all the Rapids/Depths the same and it cut half the design perfectly until it went haywire (both times)

Does that narrow it down at all?

DID it do it at the same point in the code???  Check your code for a strange move in Z at that point.

 Just a thought, (;-) TP

No, different points.

The first time it DID show in the code -Z 3963.3534 !!!!!!!

So I went back to Lcam, re-sent the g-code, checked, and double checked before I ran it in mach and EVERYTHING said -0.1300 depth and 0.100 rapid.

Got half way through the second run (a little further than the first run) and it did it again.

I have been running this machine without any changes for a couple of weeks, and ths problem only came up today :(

SO the second time did you check the code at the spot it happened??

I checked EVERY negative Z value.

After I killed the run I scrolled up to the last -Z in Mach3 and it said -z0.1300

Is there ANOTHER part of the code that relates to negative Z that I am unaware of?

Zmoves can be anywhere in the code just depends on what your CAM program has created. ARE you using tool length comp?? This can cuase problems IF your tool lengths are not correct.

Post the last code and we can help you look for anything that might be a problem.
