General Mach Discussion / Auto Tool Changer Help
« on: July 12, 2014, 09:59:26 AM »
I have just fitted an auto tool changer to my Orac lathe and got it to work manually.
I would like some advice on getting Mach to control it, the instructions that came with the tool changer show an input of +5v to activate and an output as status.
I assume I connect the +5v input to a pin on the breakout board and then config/ select a pin in port and pins? Not sure where to connect the status output and what GCode controls tool changers?
Thanks

Mike

General Mach Discussion / MachTurnNo2
« on: July 11, 2014, 11:55:10 AM »
I have an Orac lathe converted to Mach several years ago, the computer hard drive failed, I have since got a used computer with XP and loaded Mach also the C11.xml file that I had a copy of.
As I have not used the lathe for years, and my memory on how to use it is fuzzy, in manual mode the spindle runs, but I can’t get it to jog, tried with jog on and jog mode on and off.
I think there is something simple I am not doing? I have attached the xml if that helps
Could someone advise please?
Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Problems with Y axis
« on: April 11, 2014, 01:36:20 PM »
My origional computer started playing up so swaped over to another one, when I started to run a program the Y axis moved in a minus direction the x and z where ok. I checked ports and pins for motor settings they seem ok. Both computers are useing the same xml, here it is, can you check if all is well.
Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Gear Milling
« on: June 23, 2013, 08:45:56 AM »

I am trying to make a  4tpi 0.850” dia worm gear, my lathe is not big enough to handle the forces generated, so I thought I could thread mill on my CNC mill using the fourth axis rotary table.
Problem is how do I control A axis and X axis independently while on the same line of code i.e.?
G1 A360 F30 X1.00 F6
Or is there another G code command to cover this situation? I have looked through G codes but can’t find one that suits.

Thanks

Mike

General Mach Discussion / Eratic Machine
« on: April 25, 2012, 07:56:46 AM »
My SyilX3 is cutting elipses instead of circles, I am using a file that has worked before and double checked in the simulator, so I assume the problem lies with the machine.
I have attached the file and the xml
Can anyone help?

General Mach Discussion / New lathe tool turret Help
« on: September 04, 2011, 06:52:49 AM »
I have a new eight-station tool turret I wish to add to my Orac lathe, whilst I am competent at electronics and wiring I know zero about programming.
I think I need a macro to operate the turret!! The instructions that came with the turret says it requires an input pulse of 0v for two seconds to operate, (that is when normally 5v) and a 5v output pulse for 4 seconds to show status  (when normally 0v)
I also need advise on configuring to Mach, I am guessing setting up Ports and Pins. I fitted a CNCfor PC breakout board to operate the lathe.
I assume the G code instruction would be M6 T1 to 8
Any advice and help would be appreciated.
Thanks

General Mach Discussion / USB Connection
« on: November 23, 2009, 01:20:06 PM »
A friend has given me a PC which I would like to use as a backup to the PC that runs my mill, but new PC doesn't havea serial printer port only USB. I have looked through previous posts on USB connection but last was 2007.
Can you advise on current arrangement for connection from PC to machine via USB
Thanks
