General Mach Discussion / Re: Hold Down Clamps
« on: February 16, 2011, 12:29:56 PM »
Here is a photo of the table top. For now I have these 2 pieces which will hold a piece in place but wondering if there is any better idea.

The slots on the table will take any std. T-Slot bolt, and the table top is 3/4" plywood

I have a light knocking sound on the X axis and ONLY when she travels in the Positive Direction. If you watch my video above and turn the volume up you will hear it well.

I have checked all mechanical parts on this axis and cant find anything wrong. Anyway if I had anything wrong you would hear the knocking sound in both directions.

Is it possible the sound may come out from the motor?

Any ideas where to look?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Power Supply Unit

From the 3 main items on this power supply unit (toroidal, rectifier, capacitors). which will generate the most heat that needs to be dissipated ?

Toroidal was to be delivered today but the courier got stuck in the snow and delivery will be tomorrow. I will then make a layout and post a photo for comments before starting mounting the items.

LazyCam (Beta) / MultiPass Cuts
« on: February 15, 2011, 09:22:16 PM »
Regarding my post “Interface Tutorial” under General Mach Discussion I would have liked to know if LazyCam can do the same as the “Multipass Wizard”

It looks like that if I set my tool parameters in LC and set the Max Depth per Cut to what I want and then set in the Cut section my cut depth, LC seems to do multipasses to cut my piece.

Is there any difference between the Multipass Wizard and the LC procedure I described above?

Any pros / cons between the two?

Thanks Russ, finally I’m there LOL

ok so I got the Z-Inhibit what it does and how we set it on and besides the main Mach screen the Z-Inhibit is also on the Ports & Pins menu / Mill Options and there it’s also the Persistant Option

In other words the Z-Inhibit is a safety option to prevent the Z travelling lower than a certain limit

Thanks for your time

Hi Russ, thanks for the help

So the attached picture shows the Z-Inhibit I have on my screen, just to make sure that we are talking about the same control. So if I set that to lets say -3 and I click the button ON/OFF the Z will go not further down than -3 no matter what the g-code has. Is this correct?

I can’t find any command about “Persistent Z-Inhibit” Where is that?

ok I got it with the Wizard, it works here too and looking in the g-code I can see lines added but I have to study the code to see if they new lines are inserted properly.

But my question still remains: where do I input how many passes I want a particular cut to be made with?

In my Config Menu / Safe Z Setup there are these entries which I don’t understand. I have also attached a picture of this window in case we don’t have the same. The entries I don’t understand on this screen are:

Allow Safe Z Moves: What establishes “Safe” moves?
Safe Z is an Incremental Rise and below there is an input window: Is this where I put the # of passes?

Sorry about all these questions but controlling how the Z behaves its important and I would like to understand it correctly

I don’t know why no one answers my questions; are they too difficult or too easy ?

Anyway I found on Mach3 Mill manual paragraph 6.2.17 Automatic Z control family but when I go to config menu there is no Logic dialog for the static setting of this Inhibit –Z value.

On the config menu there is a Safe Z Setup menu but no explanations how to do it.

So no one to help me understand how I set multipass?
