switching from cnc to manual
« on: November 13, 2008, 05:41:13 PM »
Hi all

Have a big problem with both my Wabeco lathe and mill
Its ok on cnc mode but have to keep switching back and forth to get into manual mode.
Takes forever to switch to manual. Any ideas

Can you explain a bit more about what you are meaning as I am unclear when you say switching back and forth  to get into manual mode.

On the Wabeco machine controll there is a 3 position switch
Left for CNC middle for OFF right for Manual.
To get the machine to work in manual you have to move the switch from off to cnc and back to off and then to manual
It wont work just switching directly to manual from the off position
Takes a long time switching back and forth tget it to work

Is the wabeco a bought machine already fitted with the CNC controls or was it retrofitted/converted?
Any idea where this switch connects to as its certainly not the norm for a retrofit to have such a switch.

The machines were bought new from Wabeco about 2 months ago
We had problems for about 6 weeks with the XML files but that got fixed last week

Cant even find pics on their site :( The specs suggest that you can switch from CNC to manual but there is no info on it I can see. It has to be a Wabeco thing so probably best to contact them unless you can attach schematics?

If no schematic is available maybe you can trace out the switch wiring and find out what it is doing.
I run my mill in both CNC and manual. It's not a Wabeco. Can disable each axis if so desired but instead just turn off the controller.
Remember that a stepper will generate a current / voltageĀ  when it's turned manualy and thus throws that back into
the drive or what ever it's connnected to.
