z acting up
« on: September 19, 2008, 12:58:31 PM »
i am using mach3 version 2.0. i have a file that i have been running for aprox 6 months. latley  sometimes the z will suddenly plunge aprox .375 too far. this has happened twice.
one other time when i homed the z it went up a little over 4in. [normal] hit the home switch & started back down, when it should have gone from 4 something to 3 something it went to 2.972 in the dro, but the z was actually at aprox 3.972 does anyone have any ideas what might be going on?
any help is very much appreciated. thanks greg

What hardware do you have? If you have a breakout board could you remove it and wire direct and see if it happens again?

I understand the cutting of cables would want to be a last resort, would be with me as well :)
Ok if its just the Z axis how about swapping the wires on the breakout so that you swap for example X and Z and see if the problem follows the axis.

Ok then probably just best to check the ouput at the breakout when it happens again. If that checks out negative then you will have to investigate further, there have been quite a few problems with the CNC4PC breakout boards optics reported  lately so might be worth getting a few handy to replace.
