Jeff
Didn't you ever hear of Leprechaun's?  ;) I get the small ones at 4 for a $ at the local flea market. Trouble is they keep disappearing when it's time to do work. Will never get the mill done!  ;)

Rich,
Freakin Fantastic. You gonna set them all up on a line shaft?
Only 1 motor needed. I remember them days.

Ed,
No line shaft, although they do work. I just have themĀ in small display cases.
Currently sitting on top of the sterio speakers in the family room. They look so much nicer than the
ugly vases from my mother in-law.

Hi All,
Time to start making some more parts for the model again. The pictures show one of the universal joints completed for the model. I could of just softened a bearing and drilled two holes thru it, but,  instead I decided to CNC turn the ball.
Attached is the gcode for machining the ball and a picture of the pointed tool used. The code does a complete finishing pass after the roughs. You need a tool which will not gouge the ball as it goes around it. You don't need to change tools when done this way and and the part has a nice finish.

Nice job Rich,

But , I want to see it cnc ed.  :D
For outside radiuis , I usually use a outsie radius mill cutter clamped in the tool post . gives you an accurate radi without having to grind a tool bit.
But if you don't have , then you sharpen a tool bit.
Thanks for the update.
