Scaling
« on: June 08, 2006, 06:25:19 PM »
Hi,I've never used scaling in Maach3 and I'm a little burnt out at the moment so ; 1+scale is 100%.Let's say I want to shave .003" x and y on a rectangle with fillet'ed corners...I want it all down by that... so do I figure out the percentage that .003" is of one of the lengths of the rectangle and then subtract that from 100% and scale the scale number down accordingly?-Keith

Scaling will only work to do that IF the rectangle's center is at x0 y0. Anything other th x0 y0 will result in a shift of the rectangle...

It is!!!(at x0,y0,that is).So I subtract that percentage and consider 1+ to be 100%(for instance length=1.2275";.003"=.24%,width=.8775" ; .003"=.34%... so xscale =99.76? y scale=99.66%?) Or have I lost my marbles completely?-Keith

Sorry, I mean scale x=.9976 ,y=.9966  ...is that correct?

Okay, well if my calculations weren't on the money,it sure seemed to work perfectly.I cut some 'air' above the vicinity and then 'went for broke' and I'm not complaining ,so it's all good. Thanks for looking in.-Keith

I didn't run the numbers but your 99.66 sounds just about right :) I understand where you got in trouble and I think you have a good understanding about how it works now!

Thanks
Brian
