Is SmoothStepper Ready For The Masses?
« on: August 10, 2008, 09:08:51 PM »
I just LOVE the idea of SmoothStepper, but am always leery of something that's "brand new".  So, howzabout those of you who have one letting the rest of us know if you're happy with it, and if you'd buy one now, or better to wait a few months to get a few more kinks out.  Any bugs/quirks/limitations I should be aware of?
This will be going on a BP-clone knee mill.
Thanks!

BTW - I assume SmoothStepper requires USB 1.1, not 2.0?

USB 1 or 2.
The major things to be implemented still are spindle sync and  SoftLimits, there are other things that are quite not right but that are a bit lower on the priority list one I know of is slaved axis has a few problems homing although I believe a lot of people are using the SS with slaved axis.

I have had a SS since the very beginning of the Beta testing and have since bought two others. The Beta one is on a coil winding machine I made and one of the production ones is on my mill, both working great with no problems. The third one is waiting for spindle sync to be completed then it will be put on my lathe.
