M3Turn Tool Set-up Prob
« on: June 27, 2008, 02:28:14 PM »
Hey All,
Setting up Turn tools "by the book" (I think).
On tool page, tool DRO, highlight-type  0101- Enter....touch off....All is OK
          "              "                "           -0202                "                 "
-0303- Enter and Mach goes away completely, Will not restart, Computer will NOT shut down, (have to kill it manually) then reboot, start Mach again and all is OK again. Searches pointed to the keyboard, tried 2...1 brand new, same prob.
That DRO seems to only want  a single digit as far as 3 is concerned...0404 did the same. 303 and 404 did the same but 0202 worked fine...I don't get it.
Just put 3 or 4  in there by itself and it seems to be OK.
Could someone please explain what is going on here ? I may be misinterpreting the manual.
Thank you first,
RC

RC, do you have fairly accurate limits?
Can let you know how I set things up, in fact I am meant to be writing it for another guy and just havent had the time but really I should do so now.

This does the same thing on 2 different set-ups. Version R2.60 and 3.041

Type  0303  in the DRO, hit Enter and see what you get.
Thanks

Hood,
My limits are +/- .0005" but I dont see where that would have any effect on what I am getting.
This is after referencing, then touching off and setting up 4 tools.

RC I asked about the limits for a different reason, should have maybe given a brief outline of what I do but I am writing up my routine for initial setup and will post later. However I never enter the number into that DRO, not sure what the standard screen has but the one I made up has the MDI line on the toolset page and I just type T101 or T606 or whatever into the MDI. That DRO you have is just tool position number, not offset so I think typing t303 will cause problems because its over the max tool numbers in Mach.

I realized afterwards why you were asking about the limits....forgive me, I'm slow. hehehe
The manual needs to be changed.

I didn't type the "T", just the 0303 like the manual says. And it clearly says to put it right there in that DRO for all of the tools.
I did find that if you just put the single, or 2 digit tool # there and touch-off, the tool table is set correctly though.

Had me worried for a spell. Thought I broke something.
Interested in your procedure when it gets published. Although, this is OK for now.
Thanks Hood,
RC

Another strangeity,  tools only go up to 99.......Put 0101 or 101,0202 or 202 in there and it works fine. Weird

RC, I cant really undertand the manual, I think it may have been written for Mach2 Turn and things have changed but not sure.
The way I see it is the numbers in the tooltable are the offsets rather than the tool numbers and as you say there are only 99 that you can use. I have front toolpost and rearturret, turret holds 6 and post 4 so I have 10 tool positions. I however have many more tools set up so that I can swap them out and call them, What I have is T101, 202....1010 then its starts over at Tool 1 again but this time the offset is 11 (T111) T2 is T212 etc etc. right up to T999 (no way for t10100 :( LOL )
Next problem is the box for Front and Rear in tooltable really screws things up so you have to keep them all the same, either all front or as in my setup all Rear. I have a workaround which hopefully after a while Brian will manage to get into the code of MachTurn but I have a bit more testing to do to find the pitfalls.

Not familiar with the toolpost issues, never used that part. Vaguely remember some discussion way back.
Other than that, I think the manual is pretty good, everything is laid out and explained well. All except the DRO entry. It just needs to be the tool # without the offset.
Thanks,
RC

Maybe I have an old manual but I am sure it talks about choosing a tool by  first specifying T*   then next line is M6  G43  H* for the offset, maybe I am getting confused here but as far as I can see the tools and offsets are chosen on a single line in the form of T0101 which denotes Tool 01 and Offset 01.
Will have to go read the manual again   ::)

OK thats what it was, I have been referencing an old Manual, I was looking at one titled "UsingTurn Mach3.pdf" I now see the manual on the downloads page is a newer version and entitled "Mach3Turn_1.84.pdf".
