Left Hand Threading ???
« on: April 05, 2008, 10:34:54 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I am using Mach3 Turn and have a project in the pipeline that will require left hand threads.

I don't see anything that indicates the existing G76 macro will support this.

Has anyone figured out how to do this?  How?

Hey Bob,
This might not be the best/right way, but I just run the spindle in reverse and put the tool on the back side and use the threading wizard.
The spindle index pulse is just for the synchronization, Mach doesn't know what direction it is turning.

I also tried starting in a relief groove on the front side and setting Z start a negative, and Z end a positive so it threads toward the tailstock with the spindle running forward.

Good luck, Standby at EStop !

The threading is easy enough, it is handy to have a tool that can be mounted inverted and then just reverse spindle. Also try to prg it in slant rather than plunge, it makes for a much easier load on the tool point when cutting on one side and scraping on the other side of point.
