Resize a DXFfile
« on: March 17, 2008, 12:34:18 AM »
My first post!!! ;D

Have  a full version of Mach3 and TurboCad.  How can I resize a DXF file that is too large for my CNC to cut?

Mach has scaling built in, you can set the scale on the main page top centre.

Found it.
Initially it was 1.000  changed the X and Y axis to 0.500 and then the LED on each buttin is now blinking yellow.
But the GCode did not change.
Guess I am doing something wrong, any ideas?

If you press regen screen the path is scaled not the code, when you cut the path it will be scaled then.

So, the Gcode numbers displayed on the Mach3 screen do not change.  But when it cuts it will cut to the smaller size.

Hmmmm I need to find a DXF test file that is smaller than my cut area then do the scale, regen then cut and see if it really changes.  That way if it didn't change the size there won't be a problem.

It seems funny that after scaling you just have to trust it because there isn't any visual indication that it did not really resize the object.

If you change the display view to table mode you will see the tool path is half size, if you have your soft limits set up then the tool path will show it scaled to the size of your table.

Thanks Graham,  I really like to see something change after doing something.  And in the future you would have to do the same thing again.

The other way is to put G51 Xnn Ynn into your program, that way it is scaled for life and you will not forget.

So by putting the  G51 Xnn Ynn in the GCode and no matter how large the piece to be cut is, Mach3 will automatically size it down to be the  Xnn Ynn size.  Thats good to know too.

Finally getting the feel of the terms used in Mach3.

Thanks for you very good explinations.
