5 axis gantry router
« on: December 06, 2005, 03:35:58 PM »
HI all I have been charged with building a 5 axis gantry router for making large plugs for fiberglas molds. Has anyone else built one? just looking for any comments or suggestions.

If you have a good mechanichal background, I think the biggest challenge with this would be the CAM part of it, good 5 axis CAM packages dont come in cheap.
I beleive there is a software called cnc toolkit, there is a yahoo group called the same way, the software was developed for the hobiest in mind, and it runs within 3dstudio. Havent tried it, but i have read its pretty good. The moderator there has built a 5 axis machine, and a lot of the posts are related to building one. Give it a look, the website is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CNC_Toolkit/
and rab (moderator) has a website with his creations
http://www.rainnea.com/cnc.htm
Hope that gets you started

Thanks, I have seen that guy. That is an awsome machine. I have downloaded the software but haven't had time to mess wiith it. The machine is going to be 10' x10' x4' . Right now the plan is to use rutex servo drives, anyone have experiance with these?
