Motor ratings for dyna 3000 lathe

Does anybody know the stepper volts/amps for all three steppers on a dyna lathe, they aren't printed on there. Thanks

My Z axis motor is marked showing 2.3 for series and 4.6A for parallel. The X axis is 3A as I recall. The turret motor should be marked right on the motor. Mine shows 1.2A
Have you retrofitted you machien to run off Mach3?

Thanks Dan. Any ideas on the voltage? I haven't retrofitted it yet. I think I am going to just use the steppers on it for now and geckos and servos down the road. Still not sure how to control the spindle motor. How many inches per minute does your run stock? Are you using original drives or??

If are going to run Geckos just put ~48v to the drives with motors connected run some test program and see if the motors get to warn, if not add more volts if you need more speed or reduce volts if the motors get hot.

Hi, Kaderick

If your using Gecko's or a Control Board with Current Setting Feature, Your power supply should be close to the max volt's for the control board/box.

Example: Gecko's are rated 80 volt's and up to 7 Amp's w/Heat-Sink, Current is set on the gecko, Limiting the Amp's to the rating of your Stepper Motor.

You don't really need to now the volt's with above type controls. Your motors after running for awhile should be hot enough that.

If you put your hand on it, You really feel the need to Turn it lose in 2-3 seconds, Pretty warm.

If you have a  stepper, 2.5 Amp's, "X" 3 ohm's = 7.5 Volt's "Ohm's Law", The margin between 7.5 and 80 volt's is 26.666 times the volts you need.

This difference is used up as the stepper goes faster to maintain the Amp's at 2.5 until 80 volt's is reached, then the torque drops off.

That's where you start losing step's more or less, Some what simplified, Lot's on the Web to see on this.

I have a Dyna 2800 mill which I believe used the same motors and driver boards as your lathe. I say used because I just replaced them with Gecko G203V drivers and Pacific Scientific NEMA 34 motors. If they are the same you should have 48 volts going to the motor and the motor is rated at 2.3 AMP.
